Assessing the framework of Nigeria's Justice System

The 2025 Justice Sector Assessment (JSA), conducted by the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), examines the capacity and performance of Nigeria’s justice institutions to identify key challenges and opportunities for reform. Based on 2,407 responses across all 36 states and the FCT, the findings reveal significant gaps in technology, policy implementation, training, and funding within the justice system.
The assessment highlights major concerns including inadequate legal aid funding, limited staff training, weak technological infrastructure, and threats to judicial financial independence. Overall, the findings emphasize the urgent need for data-driven reforms, improved funding, and stronger institutional capacity to enhance access to justice and strengthen judicial processes in Nigeria.
